Secretariat Would Have Won Over American Pharaoh

THUNDER BAY – The Wall Street Journal has produced an interesting video that lets you see the Belmont Stakes wins of Secretariat and American Pharaoh side by side.

Many sports have many people comparing which athlete from different eras are the best.

What would have happened if Mohammad Ali had fought Mike Tyson?

Are the Stanley Cup winning Edmonton Oilers a better team than the Montreal Canadians?

With all the innovations in training, equipment in many sports, comparing different athletes from different eras is very hard.

Take golf as an example. How would Ben Hogan, or Jack Nicholas have compared to Tiger Woods at his prime if all three were using the exact same golf equipment?

In horse racing, it is more possible to make a comparison, as the distances are the same. Training is different, but not all that different.

It appears that horse racing legend Secretariat would have beaten American Pharaoh had the two horse run in the same race.
