THUNDER BAY – Walkers led by Mishkeegogamang First Nation arrived in Thunder Bay and to complete their 650 kilometre walk went from the Valhalla Inn to Current River. There are mixed emotions for many on the walk, as there is a pride in accomplishing the walk, but a sadness for the Murdered and Missing Aboriginal Women.
The walkers range in age from young children to grandmothers.
In Thunder Bay today the walkers had nice weather as they trekked through Thunder Bay with a large number of drivers honking their horns in support and waving at them.
Sarah Skunk, Rena Fox, Viola Panacheese are some of the women missing or murdered who come from the community of Mishkeegogamang.
An emotional Chief Connie Grey McKay commented that the emotions of the day were running strong.
Support for a National Inquiry into Murdered and Missing Aboriginal Women is growing across Canada but still seems to be “off the radar screen” for the Prime Minister.
On Saturday, the Mishkeegogamang Walkers will host closing ceremonies for the walk at the Victoria Inn.
