Idle No More Voices of the YouthSudbury, ON -Politics – The Anti-Terrorism Act, also known as Bill C-51, easily passed third reading this week by a margin of 183 to 96.

Chief Isadore Day, candidate for the Ontario Regional Chief position says, “Thanks to the Conservative government’s majority, and the promised support of the third-party Liberals, we are witnessing one of the most glaring thefts of Charter Rights and Freedoms, known in modern times.”

Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney has said the legislation is required to keep Canadians safe from Jihadi-inspired attacks like those that claimed the lives of two soldiers in attacks just days apart last October.

Day along with a majority number of Canadians and First Nations alike, say that the federal Conservatives have designed other agendas in this bill that are clearly targeting Indigenous Peoples who step out and protest against government policy and/or development.

“Chiefs in Ontario do not need more talk on Bill C-51 and its infringements – we need action,” said Chief Day.

“Simply, a third reading means that federal parliamentarians have had their say – we must turn up the volume in the loud speaker to the Governor General of Canada and denounce the passage of this through the “Royal Assent” process. We need to support and seek standing in a constitutional challenge; and we must educate all Canadians and Indigenous people across this country, and we must continue to rally, protest, and peacefully demonstrate against this insanity,” urges Chief Isadore Day.

It is expected that Day and other First Nation leaders across the country, who are being advised their legal experts, will not let this rest.
