THUNDER BAY – TRAVEL – Headed south next winter? From Thunder Bay to Mexico’s Caribbean coastline will become a short flight away next winter, as Sunwing adds direct weekly flights from Thunder Bay to Cancun, beginning December 23, 2015.
The new route will be the only option to fly direct to Cancun from Thunder Bay, and will be offered in addition to the weekly flight service to Varadero, Cuba that Sunwing has been operating over the past five years. So vacationers will be able choose between two convenient flight options from their doorstep this coming season.
“We are delighted to be able to offer a second Sunwing service to the sun from Thunder Bay this coming winter,” said Andrew Dawson, Chief Operating Officer, Sunwing Travel Group. “Cancun and the Riviera Maya are amongst our most popular tourism destinations and have much to offer vacationers, so we are sure that this new route will be embraced.”
“We are excited by Sunwing’s demonstration of additional confidence in our market,” added interim President & CEO of Thunder Bay International Airport Authority, Ed Schmidtke. “Our market has a positive history of supporting Sunwing and we look forward to a successful 2015/16 winter campaign.”
On their way to this popular Mexican destination, passengers will be able to start off their vacation in style with a welcome glass of sparkling wine, complimentary Hot & Fresh Bistro Meals™ served with wine, and in-flight entertainment as part of the airline’s award-winning Champagne Service. And unlike many other airlines, Sunwing also includes free checked baggage with a generous 20kg allowance.
Stretching down Mexico’s sparkling Caribbean coastline for 150 km as far as Tulum, Cancun and Riviera Maya are amongst the most popular tourism destinations in the Americas. As well as being home to fabulous resorts, they also rank as top ecotourism centres with lots to see and do for all ages at local eco parks – from snorkelling to horseback riding. This is also the land of the Mayans and there are many places to visit to see glimpses into this ancient civilization.
