THUNDER BAY – The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the death of a Pikangikum First Nation man who was found on a trail near the community.
The man left Pikangikum First Nation on Friday to walk the winter roads and trails towards Red Lake, located about 100 kilometres south of the community.
Police received a missing person report on Saturday morning when the man didn’t return.
Later Saturday afternoon,Pikangikum community members reported to police that they found the man’s body near a trail between Pikangikum and Red Lake.
The man has been identified as fifty-five-year-old Robert Pierrot from Pikangikum.
The OPP are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death reportedly due to “the condition of the body,” according to statement issued.
A post-mortem examination will take place in Toronto. Police have not yet determined a time and date.
