Proceeds to Northern Cardiac Fund
THUNDER BAY – LIVING – The Run for Women, presented by Re/Max First Choice Realty Ltd. and CIBC, is back again – delighting thousands of female running enthusiasts. On Saturday, May 9, runners and walkers will take to the trail at Boulevard Lake starting at 10 AM. Choose from either a 5K or 1K event (children welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult). The $25 registration includes a beautiful raspberry-coloured race shirt, and post-race social. And new this year – chip timing!
Participants are encouraged to collect pledges to support the purchase of a new C-arm (specialized x-ray equipment) in the new cardiac catheterization lab at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. This equipment ensures 24/7 angioplasty – the gold standard of cardiac care – for the thousands of patients who need it.
Bronwyn Huffman, pictured centre, will wear the #1 bib on May 9. Following chemotherapy for treatment of pediatric acute myeloid leukemia in 2012, Bronwyn suffered heart failure. On April 9, 2014, she received a life-altering heart transplant and is happy to participate in this year’s Run for Women. Proudly presenting Bronwyn with this special bib are Run for Women organizing committee members, Diane Knox (left) and Gordie Garriock (right).
More information, registration and online pledging can be found at healthsciencesfoundation.ca/runforwomen. Hard copies of registration forms also available at: Re/Max First Choice Realty Ltd., Fresh Air and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation Office.
