Fort William Businesses Setting the Course
THUNDER BAY – A clean and green city is attractive to residents, visitors, and can bring in new investors. Across the downtown Fort William Business Area, a number of businesses are taking it upon themselves to start their spring cleaning early.
Clearing the sidewalks of a winter’s worth of gravel makes it far more attractive for customers to arrive at their shops and businesses.
Over the past several weeks, as the snow has melted, residents and business owners see the results of months of mess, as people have tossed cigarette butts, coffee cups, syringes, broken glass, cardboard and a myriad of mess.
Over the past several days, the Fort William Business Improvement Area has had their Ambassador out starting the clean up, taking down the holiday decorations and getting set for spring.
For many people, spring-cleaning means taking the time to get out and ensure that their business and area look as presentable as possible.
There are, of course, some concerns. Spring brings out a winter’s worth of syringes. You can contact Superior Points to come out and pick up syringes. For some reason, in Thunder Bay syringes are provided in bags of twenty. That often means as many as 18-19 syringes get left littering our streets.
If there were four packs, or other smaller options, it would likely save money, and help reduce the number of syringes that litter our streets and laneways.
Moving forward toward spring, in the coming weeks, the City of Thunder Bay will be out patching pot-holes, cleaning the sidewalks, and streets, and also cleaning graffiti from city property.
The Guardian Angels are starting their daytime street patrols in addition to their evening patrols. That is hoped will provide a needed clean up as well, of some of the less wanted activities in the downtown.
It won’t be long before Eco-Superior will be offering their spring cleaning kits for homes and businesses as well.
Taking back our city and making it cleaner, more presentable to our residents, visitors, and potential new business owners is a great way to start the spring season.
NetNewsLedger salutes those businesses in our downtown who are taking a pro-active approach and getting spring cleaning going early.
