THUNDER BAY – TECHNOLOGY – Long before the cyclotron arrived in Thunder Bay on February 10th, there was a lot of excitement in the community about this unique machine.

Along with ensuring the availability of medical isotopes for patient care in Northwestern Ontario, the cyclotron will also usher in a new era of research at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) and the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute (TBRRI). Products produced by the cyclotron will be used by scientists to create new and more informative diagnostic agents that will allow physicians to provide better patient care and more personalized therapies.

On April 11th and 12th, officials at TBRRI will be offering the public unprecedented access to the Cyclotron and Radiopharmacy facility. Guided tours will be taking place in the morning and afternoon on both days from 10:00 am to 12 noon (by appointment only) and on a first-come, first-served basis from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm.

The tours will feature demonstrations and will run for approximately 40 minutes.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the cyclotron, the operations of the new facility, and how all of this will enhance patient care and the local economy.

One of the tour guides will be none other than the “Cyclotron Guy” himself, Dr. Michael Campbell.

“This is a great educational opportunity for our community”, says Campbell. “We want to ensure that the public is well informed about what will be happening in this facility once the cyclotron is fully operational.”

Getting this close to the cyclotron won’t be so easy once the facility is up and running. That’s why the public is encouraged to take advantage of this exclusive offer.
Admission for these tours is free. Please email cyclotron@tbh.net for more information.
