Health Infrastructure Funding for Sudbury $5 Million

SUDBURY – HEALTH – “Our Government is proud to invest in key infrastructure projects that enable Northern Ontario’s innovation leaders to drive the economy forward. Today’s announcement will assist the Advanced Medical Research Institute of Canada to continue to play a central role in research and development in the region and across the nation, and position the area for long-term economic growth,” stated Minister Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario.

Minister Greg Rickford – Help AMRIC Meet Growing Need

The news comes as Minister Rickford, announced an investment today to support the development and growth of the medical research sector in the Sudbury region.

The investment of $4,998,960 will enable the Advanced Medical Research Institute of Canada (AMRIC) to construct and equip a new 12,000-square-foot research lab in Sudbury. The new facility will help AMRIC to meet the expanding research needs of its partners and clients, as well as support the development and growth of existing and emerging biotech and pharmaceutical companies in the region.

• Established in 2011 as an independent not-for-profit corporation, AMRIC works with a variety of regional health science partners to research, develop and commercialize new vaccines and treatments that improve patient health care and outcomes, with an emphasis on Northern populations.

• The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.

• Since 2006, through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, the Harper Government has invested $343 million in support of more than 1,645 These investments have supported more than 21,500 jobs throughout Northern Ontario.
