Scott Hill takes gold for men’s team
THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Canadian College and University Nordic Championships (CCUNC) continued on Sunday in Day 2 of action from Lappe Nordic Ski Centre, with the women’s 5km and men’s 10km freestyle event.
It was an impressive showing from the Lakehead women’s team, who swept the podium in swift fashion. Alannah Maclean took top honors and was 20 seconds faster than her nearest competitor, fellow Thunderwolf Sadie White, followed by Erin Tribe in third place.
Scott Hill took gold in the men’s 10km freestyle finishing 27 seconds ahead of the silver medallist from Laval, Frederic Touchette. Colin Abbott took third place for the Carleton team. T-Wolf Ben Wilkinson-Zan finished in 4th, and Chris Hamilton finished 7th, which will help towards the Lakehead team standings as the CCUNC’s continue Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lakehead program coordinator Amanda Kates said, “It’s been a great start to CCUNC’s for our team. Today we saw Sadie and Erin step up huge to round out the top three spots for us in the freestyle, and Alannah obviously skied tremendously to lead the team.”
“Scott skied great to take top spot for our men’s team, and Ben and Chris did very well to keep the men’s team in good shape to challenge for the CCUNC title. We’ll hope for a strong finish later this week.”
The CCUNC’s continue Tuesday with the Classic interval start, the women’s 10km beginning at 11:45am and Men’s 15km at 10:20am.
