BUFFALO, N.Y. – SPORTS – The Thunder Bay Manshield Construction bantam A Queens have started competition at the Harbor Center Cup under-14 tournament in Buffalo, N.Y., going 0-1-1 in opening day action Friday.
Thunder Bay began play with a come from behind 2-2 draw vs. the Webster Cyclones of New York State before falling 4-2 to the Buffalo Regals in their second contest of the day.
Down a pair to the Cyclones in the third period, the Queens got on the board 5:20 into the final frame as Katie Filipovic finished off the work of Caitlin Olinksi and Jillian D’Angelo.
They then notched the equalizer four minutes later as Megan Kubinec tallied with assists going to MacKenzie Christie and Sarah Arella.
Samantha Stubbs was in net for Thunder Bay in the tie.
Against Buffalo, the Regals got on the board 77 seconds into the contest and never trailed enroute to the victory.
Arella and D’Angelo scored for the Queens with Jessie Page and Lauren Lightbody picking up helpers.
Paige Wilson suffered the setback in net for the Queens.
Thunder Bay returns to the ice Saturday when they face-off against the Etobicoke Dolphins at 3 p.m.
They will then wrap-up round robin play Sunday morning with an 8:15 a.m. encounter vs. the Gilmour Sabres of Illinois.
The top squad in each of the two five-team divisions will meet for the championship Sunday at 2 p.m.
