Sudbury, Ont – Sports – The OUA wrestling championships were hosted by Laurentian University on Saturday, with three Thunderwolves reaching the podium.
Emma Horner had the best day among Thunderwolves, going undefeated and eventually beating Indira Moores (Brock) to claim the gold medal in the women’s 59kg weight class. Kelsey Dayler defeated last year’s OUA champion in the semi finals before she went on to settle for silver against Guelph’s Allison Carrow in the 67kg final match.
Chris Waltner was Lakehead’s lone male wrestler to reach the podium, winning the silver medal in the 54kg weight class, as he was unable to out-maneuver Brock’s Sam Jagas in the final.
In terms of team results, Lakehead’s women placed 5th, three points behind McMaster, and the men team was 6th, 9 points behind the York Lions team. The Brock women were crowned team champions, as were the McMaster men’s team.
