THUNDER BAY, ON – Lakehead Athletics is pleased to announce their Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 30th. They are LU Track athletes Heather Maxfield and Alastair Brown, who competed at the very competitive and 16th annual McGill Team Challenge in Montréal.
Women: Heather Maxfield,Track and Field (Nursing, 1st year, Thunder Bay, ON)
Heather did her best running so far this season at the McGill team challenge over the weekend. Running the 300m she finished 6th in a time of 41.34 breaking the old Lakehead record by almost a second. Heather is currently ranked 5th in the OUA and 13th in the CIS in the 300m.
Men: Alastair Brown, Track and Field (Biology, 3rd year, Winnipeg, MB)
Alastair posted his best running of January for the McGill Team Challenge, one the most competitive meets in the country. He started the meet off with a huge leg on the school (Lakehead) record setting 4 X 800m relay team, running 1:53.7 and pulling the team from 4th place into the lead. In the 1500m he faced most of the best OUA 1500m runners and ended up beating them all, losing only to two non university athletes. Alastair’s time of 3:53.27 was a new Lakehead record by over 4 seconds and currently ranks him second in the CIS.
