THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves Men’s Basketball team made it a double win. Finishing strong became a case in point for the men’s basketball team on Saturday, as they topped the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks 86-82.
While Lakehead did hold a 10-point advantage (42-32) at halftime, the wily Golden Hawks were not to be defeated so easily. The Hawks would close the gap to 4 heading into the third quarter, thanks to some incredible shooting by Will Coulthard, who finished with a game-high 29 points on 10-of-21 shooting.
Lakehead’s big men, fifth year Anthony McIntosh and Florida import Bacarius Dinkins were a two-man wrecking crew in the paint, scoring 21 and 19 points, respectively. Combined they went 16-of-22 from the field, and blocked 4 shots.
McIntosh, who finished with 7 rebounds (4 offensive), put the exclamation on the game with a baseline one-hand reverse jam late in the fourth quarter, humbling his defender Kyrie Coleman and sending the Thunderdome crown into a frenzy.
Dwayne Harvey hit some critical shots down the stretch as well, totalling 20 points on the night, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and 6-of-7 free throws.
Coach Manny Furtado stated, “Getting the 2nd win in as many nights is a big step for our team. We need to be consistent with our approach and effort every game and we did that tonight.”
“We stuck to the game plan and gave it inside to our posts. Anthony and Bacarius took advantage of the opportunity which is what we want our guys to do. Prepare for the opportunity and take advantage of it when it comes.”
The ‘Wolves are are the road next weekend to Toronto to play U of T and Ryerson.
