THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The men’s basketball team improved their record to 7-6 on the season with a 77-70 win on Friday night over the Waterloo Warriors.
Lakehead was slow to start, as Myles Charvis nailed back to back triples to get the Warriors out to a 6-2 lead. The ‘Wolves trailed 13-6 before a they went on a 11-4 run to complete the first quarter.
After coming out of the locker room down 32-27 at halftime, Lakehead went inside to its bigs, Anthony McIntosh and Bacarius Dinkins, who worked together to score 6 straight points, followed by a Jamar Coke three-pointer that got the home side its first lead of the game.
The third quarter would just get better for Lakehead, who scored 35 points in the frame, their season-best output for one quarter. Lakehead was ahead by 17 with one quarter to play. The Warriors did mount a late comeback, but couldn’t close the gap, despite a few lackadaisical offensive sets by the ‘Wolves down the stretch.

Dwayne Harvey flirted with a triple-double, scoring 10 points with 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
Henry Tan had likely his best game of the season thus far, not only by scoring 14 points with 5 assists, but with his defensive play against the Warriors’ dangerous guard, Myles Charvis. Tan limited him to 16 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds.
Coach Manny Furtado commented, “Our guys competed hard tonight especially in the 3rd quarter. We kept battling every possession and that’s all I can ask for as a coach. We built a 17 point lead at one point but need to learn how to put teams away.”
