Thunder Bay Police Lay Charges in December 5 Accident

Thunder Bay PoliceTHUNDER BAY – It was a horrific accident. Thunder Bay Police now report, “The investigation into the auto pedestrian collision on December 5th, 2014 which resulted in the death of 75 year old Darlene Kooistra has concluded.

The seventeen-year-old driver of the truck has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Careless Driving – Section 130.

He will make a court appearance on February 20, 2015.

An examination of the vehicle during the investigation has resulted in three more charges being laid that have been determined to play no part in the collision.

The additional charges are:
• Defective Braking System – Section 64(7) HTA
• Operate Unsafe Vehicle – Section 84(1) HTA
• Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor – Section 32(1) LLA

The driver will be making a court appearance on March 6, 2015 to answer to these three separate charges.
