Hunters Fined for Illegal Moose Hunt

GERALDTON – Three southern Ontario men have pleaded guilty to unlawfully hunting moose and were fined a total of $3,000.

Palma Sabourin of Brockville was fined $2,000 and received a one-year hunting ban for hunting without a licence. Thomas Knapp of Brockville and Lloyd Knapp of Prescott were each fined $500 for possessing illegally-killed wildlife.

Court heard that on October 13, 2014, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officers responded to a complaint of suspicious activity on Claire Lake Road, north of Caramat. Officers contacted the men in the area and upon investigation determined that Sabourin shot a bull moose earlier that day for which his hunting party was not licensed. Sabourin and Thomas Knapp hid the moose under some brush while Lloyd Knapp went to Caramat and tried unsuccessfully to find a bull moose validation tag.
