OTTAWA – SPORTS – In the belly of the beast that is the Raven’s Nest, the Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s basketball team were promptly dispatched, 105-58 on Saturday evening.
The ‘Wolves were able to run up and down with the CIS champs for the first six minutes or so, but had the Ravens hit on consecutive triples to open up a 9 point lead after 10 minutes, 19-8.
The sharp shooting continued through the second quarter, as Carleton poured it on from three point land, going ahead 50-19 at halftime.
In the second half the ‘Wolves did manage to put up 39 points to the Ravens’ 55.
The Ravens hit more than half of their field goals from behind the arc, connecting on 17 of 32 long range attempts (and 33 of 62 total field goals).
Jamar Coke led the ‘Wolves with 17 points, and Dwayne Harvey scored 11.
Six Ravens scored in double digits, led by Victor Raso with 19 points (5 of 7 from 3).
Carleton controlled the boards, out-rebounding Lakehead 43-25, and made 22 assists to LU’s 7.
Coach Manny Furtado said, “To beat the best you have to play your best and we didn’t do that consistently enough tonight. Our guys competed for 40 minutes tonight which is exactly what we were looking for.”
The men’s team (5-6) returns to the Thunderdome to play Algoma on Friday, January 23.
