Christmas Eve Weather Overview

THUNDER BAY – December 24th, Christmas Eve and there are puddles in Thunder Bay along with very light snow showers. There are weather warnings out for much of Eastern Ontario. Timmins is under a snowfall warning.

Snowfall, with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected is expected in the Timmins region.

A strengthening low pressure system developing over the Southern United States continues to track northeastward to reach the province by this evening. As the low approaches, significant snowfall is expected over the warned regions tonight. Amounts in excess of 15 cm within 12 hours are likely. Snow will taper off Thursday morning.

For Sudbury, North Bay and Earlton, up to 30 mm of rain are likely Wednesday night followed by a few centimetres of snow and strong winds on Thursday.

Keep up on the latest Road Conditions if you are travelling. Remember across Northwestern Ontario, with warm temperatures, it is very possible that ice could form on area highways and roadways.

For the City of Toronto and region, there is a Wind Warning in effect. Very strong wind gusts that may cause damage are expected or occurring. A strong low pressure system developing over the Southern United States will continue to track northeastward to reach Southern Ontario this evening. Strong southwest winds are expected to develop tonight into Thursday. Winds of 60 gusting to 90 km/h are likely in many open areas. A few gusts near 100 km/h are also possible for regions bordering the northeastern shore of Lake Erie.

This may impact air travel to Billy Bishop and Pearson International Airports.
