NORTH BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead University women’s basketball team (4-2) came away with an easy 89-36 win over the Nipissing Lakers (0-5) on Friday evening.
In control from early on in the game, Lakehead took care of business against the Lakers, who are on their maiden voyage in the OUA this season.
Halftime score was 49-19 Thunderwolves, and Lakehead led 70-28 after 3 quarters.
Sophomore post Gillian Lavoie finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the ‘Wolves, her first double-double as a Thunderwolf.
Jylisa Williams scored a game-high 19 points, with 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Cassandra Soulias and August Ricketts put up good numbers, scoring 10 points each in 12 minutes played. Corina Bruni made 7 assists with 2 steals.
Claire Abbott scored 13 points for the Lakers.
Coach Jon Kreiner commented postgame, “Tonight we played well as a team on offense. The ball moved and we looked in sync and we knocked down shots. We hope some of that transfers over to tomorrow against a tough Laurentian squad.”
Lakehead women’s basketball will play the Laurentian Voyageurs tomorrow evening in Sudbury at 6pm.
