Weekend Bargaining Sessions Result in Transit Settlement

THUNDER BAY – There will not be a transit strike for the LIFT+ service. The City of Thunder Bay and the Amalgamated Transit Union have reached a memorandum of understanding that averts the threat of a strike.

Both sides met through the weekend, and reached the agreement on Tuesday.

“We are extremely pleased to reach a tentative deal and, subject to ratification, prevent any disruption in the delivery of this important public service. It’s a credit to the bargaining team on both sides,” stated Thunder Bay City Manager Tim Commisso.

The Amalgamated Transit Union Local was working toward its first contract and represents twenty workers, nine who are full-time and eleven who are working part-time with the service which was formerly called Hagi Transit.
