Break and Enters on South High and Francis Streets

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police responded to a Break and Enter in the 200 block of South High Street and on Francis Street.

Police report that the b&e happened just before 11:00PM EDT. Uniformed officers responded to the break and enter that had just occurred at the residence in the 200 block of South High Street.

The homeowners were in bed and reported hearing a noise on the second floor of their residence. They checked the house and observed a male leaving the yard running down the lane.

The homeowners then checked their home, they discovered that the screen had been removed from an open window. When they looked out they saw a ladder leading to the window.

Officer checked the area and did not locate the suspect. Officers continued to ensure the house was safe and observed that the garage to the same home was open. The ladder from the garage was use to gain entry to the open window. A knife was located by officers at the base of the ladder.

The suspect is described as a being 16 to 18 years of age. He is approximately 5’9″ tall with a medium build. He was wearing a toque or hood that is grey or steel blue in colour.

Thunder Bay Police officers attended a residence on the 300 block of East Francis Street at 2:00AM on October 16, 2014 on a report of a break and enter that just occurred.

The eighty-eight-year old female homeowner had heard a loud noise and ran out of the house to a relatives residence a few houses away.

Police were called and it was observed that entry was gained to the rear of the residence.

The area was checked by police for the suspects but they were not located.

The two suspects are described as being Caucasian males about 20 year old. One male is approximately 5’10” tall with short black hair and smaller features on his face. He was wearing all dark clothes. The second male is about 6’0″ tall and was also wearing dark clothes.

Police are reminding the public to ensure their residences and out building are locked and windows are secured to help eliminate opportunities to enter their residence.

Neighbours are encouraged to be vigilant for suspicious activity or person in the area.

Thunder Bay Police state, “It is important to realize that break and enters can occur at any time day or night and with our without homeowner in the residence. Should a homeowner be confronted with a criminal in their home, it is recommended that they get to a place of safety with in the home or out of the house as quickly as possible and contact police. Confronting a person who has broken into the home can be very dangerous”.
