THUNDER BAY – Weather conditions are impacting air travel in Northern Ontario again on Sunday. There is a special weather statement in effect for Sachigo Lake and Bearskin Lake.

Snow has caused flight cancellations. Students from Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School who were set to head home to their community are still in Thunder Bay.

Wasaya Airways states, “We would like to advise all our guests traveling with us today of possible delays, mis-connects, and cancellations. A deep low pressure system is remaining in the Northwestern Ontario region and it is continuing to produce poor visibility, low ceilings, freezing rain and snow. Because the safety of our guests is always of the utmost importance, we shall continue to closely monitor and evaluate the weather for every scheduled flight”.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Sachigo Lake – Bearskin Lake;

A significant early season snowfall continuing today.

A strong low pressure area drifting slowly westward across Far Northern Ontario continues to bring significant early season snow to the region this weekend.

The Sachigo Lake – Bearskin Lake region will escape the worst of the snowstorm, but is still likely to see total snowfalls between 10 to 15 cm of snowfall by this evening.

UPDATE: There are reportedly some people who have concluded that Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School is closing and all the students are headed home – That rumour is simply that, a rumour. Students are headed home for time with family, with their community, and for time to heal.
