THUNDER BAY – CRIME BEAT – UPDATED – Thunder Bay Police have a significant presence in the Fort William downtown this evening. Over the past hour, since 10:30PM, there have been over eight marked units of the Thunder Bay Police Service, along with several unmarked units combing the downtown streets.

Earlier, police had a vehicle stopped on George Street near the Shelter House.

13:20PM Update – Thunder Bay Police now update that a taxi driver was robbed, and that officers were searching for the suspect. More details will be released later today.

Thunder Bay Police attended the area of George Street and May Street to take a report of a robbery from a taxi driver. The driver picked up a male on Bay Street and was asked to drive him to the May Street location. As the male was being dropped off he pulled out a syringe, threatened the driver and demanded money.

The robbery suspect did make off with some cash and left the area on foot. The taxi driver was not injured in this incident.

The suspect is described as a caucasian male in his mid-twenties. He was wearing a blue shirt with beige Khaki shorts.

Sources are telling NetNewsLedger that police are looking for a male suspect in what is an assault related incident.

The search seems focused on the area between George Street and Donald Street. There has been several times in the past thirty minutes that police have been in front of the Odd Fellows Temple on May Street.

There are no EMS Units in the area.By 23:40 it appears that police might have ended the serious search.
