The Chill will host visiting club Winnipeg Bonavital, and local club Lakehead Express to compete in a variety of friendly games as well as pertinent Winnipeg Youth Soccer League games. The weekend friendlies will also be showcased with WYSL league games in which the Thunder Bay Chill Elite U13 Boys and Jr. Reserve U16 Boys will play vs. power house Winnipeg Bonavital.
The Chill youth teams have now been part of the Winnipeg Youth Soccer League for the past 3 years and are just starting to see more league action at home as compared to year one when all games were played in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg Bonavital are bringing a huge contingency of players to Thunder Bay this weekend. Nine teams from Winnipeg will take action to play the Chill and LEX teams. Action will begin Saturday and run through the weekend with the final round of games on Monday morning.
The showcase games will take place on Saturday at 10:30am where both 13 and 16 boys will play league matches vs. Winnipeg. The 13’s will also play a 2nd game at 6:30pm. For the full schedule of weekend games, please see attached for full schedule.
“This should serve as a great weekend of soccer for all our teams, but most importantly it’s a chance to play games at home in front of family and friends,” states Jr. Reserve Male Head Coach Saverio Lento.
The weekend soccer action will serve as a prelude to the 1st annual Chill youth tournament expected in a few weeks also to be played at Chapples Park and tbaytel field. In addition to this two other weekends later in the month will see more Winnipeg Youth Soccer League action as Portage Trail and FC Northwest will make the trip to Thunder Bay to play league games.
“I think the games at home is only a start to the type of attraction we can bring to our community through soccer. We will have played close to 80 soccer games with visiting teams just in this month of August which is not only a benefit to our club but to our local economy,” remarked Technical Director Tony Colistro.
The Chill hosted the Provincial Championships last weekend at Chapples Park/tbaytel field where teams from London, Markham, and Mississauga made the trip north. The Reserve Males hosted Hamilton in mid-June and the Chill Jr. Reserve Males will be hosting Burlington on August 9th.
