THUNDER BAY – Updated 13:30EDT – Thunder Bay Police have had May Street blocked off to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the past two hours.
Just before 7:30 p.m. on June 18, 2014 two plain clothed police officers were driving south on May Street approaching George Street when the observed a male on the sidewalk pointing a handgun at vehicles travelling on the street. The officers proceeded to approach the area when the male spun around and pointed the handgun directly at the officers in the unmarked police car.
The officers moved their vehicle out of the line of danger and began to approach the area on foot. When officers arrived where the male had been standing with approximately three other people, they were gone. It was believed that they had gone into the building they were standing in front of. Once more officers where on scene, the building was searched for the suspect and the weapon.
Officers were unable to locate the suspect however they did seized a replica BB handgun and a crossbow from an apartment on the first floor of the building. An intoxicated 33 year old male located inside this apartment was also arrested for breaching terms of his probation which prohibits him from consuming alcohol.
Police are still looking to identify the individual who was pointing this gun. He is described as a Native Canadian male with short hair. He is approximately 5’8″ tall with an average build. He was wearing a multi-coloured baseball cap, a black muscle shirt, and darks coloured pants.
