OTTAWA – It is a ruling that puts the possibility, at least according to some of the pundits, of an election back on the front-burner. House of Commons Speaker Peter Milliken has ruled that the House of Commons has the right to see “uncensored documents” that the Government has stated for reasons in the interest of national security it could not see.
In making his ruling, Milliken is putting the rights of Parliament over that of the Prime Minister and of the governing party.
The ruling comes about as a result of a motion passed by the House of Commons last December. That motion demanded that the Government turn over the complete file to the House of Commons committee.
It is unknown right now what result the Speaker’s ruling will have on the Conservative Government.
