THUNDER BAY – The Rainy River region, including are under Rainfall Warnings from Environment Canada.

  • Fort Frances – Emo – Rainy River
  • Seine River Village – Mine Centre
  • Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls – Morson

Environment Canada is reporting that rain, at times heavy, is expected. The ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall.

This could mean localized flooding.

The low pressure system which has affected northwestern Ontario will continue to impact the area this evening. Additional rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 mm are possible over the Fort Frances – Rainy Lake and southern Lake of the Woods area before the rain tapers off this evening. Total rainfall amounts are forecast to be near 50 mm or more with this event.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Avoid driving through water on roads. Even shallow fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle or a person away. Don’t approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Campers should move away from low lying areas.

For Thunder Bay residents, many of whom have had to turn on their furnaces to warm their homes, that blue stuff and that bright orange ball in the sky is sunshine and more summery weather conditions.
