$1.6 Million Judgement Against Thunder Bay Police Service

THUNDER BAY – LEGAL – Updated – Superior Court of Justice Judge Helen Pierce has ruled in a case between Frank Bartley, the lead investigator and the Thunder Bay Police Services Board vs Central Auto Parts.

Justice Helen Pierce awarded damages to Central Auto Parts: “I assess damages in favour of the plaintiffs as follows:

• loss of business income $1,042,179.00
• legal fees $ 268,937.62
• agreed damages $70,000.00
• non-pecuniary damages $200,000.00
Total $1,581,116.62”

Thunder Bay Chief of Police JP Lesveque stated, “It is difficult to comment on a decision based on an investigation that had occurred two administrations ago. We are somewhat surprised by the award but respect the legal process. Our legal counsel is reviewing the legal merits of appealing the decision.”

Thunder Bay Police will not comment further on the case.
