THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Poor field conditions at Chapples Park have the Thunder Bay Chill moving the two games scheduled this weekend against the Winnipeg Lions to the Fort William Stadium.
Due to the late winter and recent rain, the fields remain wet and have not allowed City crews to work on them. “As a result, both games, Saturday night’s 7:30 pm start and Sunday afternoon’s 1:00 pm start, will be moved to Fort William Stadium”, said Chill general manager John Marrello.
The Chill ended up playing 9 out of 13 games at the Stadium in 2013. “The impact on having to move to the Stadium is significant”, said Marrello. “We are not set up at the Stadium to be able to provide the soccer experience we are offering to our fans. In addition, we are not allowed to generate the revenue potential as we can at our home field and it is just an inconvenience to move merchandise, banners etc. from one facility to another. It is early in the season, and we can only hope that the weather improves so that Chapples can be rectified to at least play the remainder of the season starting with our home opener on June 6th.”
The Thunder Bay Chill plays in the 64 team Premier Development League (PDL) which is the top developmental men’s league in North America.
