THUNDER BAY – So you think you know mining? The Ontario Mining Association is offering the opportunity for high school students to share a video and possibly win a prize. The OMA say, “Create a compelling 2-3 minute video clip that profiles the benefits of mining to society. You can work alone or get a group of friends together and work as a team”.
With the growing importance of mining in the Northern Ontario community, this is an opportunity that is both timely and topical.
The OMA says, “Your video can explore a range of benefits that mining brings to society. This may include economic growth, employment opportunities and beneficial end-uses of mining products. You may decide to look at things like the corporate social responsibility practices of mining companies and their effect on remote mining communities or large urban centers, far away from actual mining. Has mining impacted culture in positive ways? Does it play a role in building a green economy? Does it enable technological and environmental innovation? Can it uncover the building blocks of a sustainable future? There are lots of themes to consider and you may hit on something that neither we, nor previous contestants have thought of!”
