MOOSE FACTORY / Moosenee – WEATHER – Moose Factory Island Fire and Rescue report on May 9th, 2014:

Surveillance Flight #17
Time: 9:00am -10:00am

Breakup has progressed to Moose Factory Island and has stopped just passed the north end of the island, along the mainland side passed Pilgrim Island, and back of the island about 1.5 miles towards the mouth. The Moose Factory side of the river now has a clear path of open water all the way up the river.

The Moosonee side of the river is all intact from Kwataboahegan River with ice fractures that are beyond the north side of the towers. Intact from the towers to the mouth of the river.

Water levels around Moose Factory have risen by 5-6 feet over night. Water continues to find its way out to the mouth of the river.

All tributaries of the Moose River are free of ice and flowing freely, with the exception of 3 channels in the mouth at Abitibi River.

The water around Abitibi has dropped 8-10 feet around the mouth of the Abitibi River and up to Kwataboahegan River.

With the current location of breakup water levels remain constant and high, but 10 feet lower than last year.

Moose Factory will change to Alert Level 4 due to the location of the current ice at Moose Factory and north of Moose Factory Island.

Thanks and have a great afternoon

Emergency Operations Coordinators.
