First Saltie of the Year Enters Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY – The Cyprus-registered vessel MV Federal Elbe became the first ocean-going “Saltie” vessel to enter the Port of Thunder Bay during the 2014 navigation season today.

The vessel anchored just outside of the harbour breakwalls on Monday evening, and shifted to Richardson’s Current River Terminal this morning, April 30, 2014 at 07:57EDT.

The Federal Elbe will load 19,500 metric tonnes of No. 1 Canada Western Amber Durum Wheat destined for Casablanca, Morocco. The agent for the vessel is Lake Superior Shipping Ltd.

Captain Zenon Masko and Chief Engineer Zbigniew Jerzy Nowak will be welcomed by Mayor Keith Hobbs and the Port Authority in a Top Hat Ceremony today at 2:30PM EDT at the Current River Terminal.
