Calgary is pre-emptive in preparing for flooding

CALGARY – “The City has been working hard to prepare our community for future flooding,” states Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “There are steps Calgarians can take to prepare themselves. We all have a role to play in emergency preparedness. We are all neighbours and we need to work together”.

The City of Calgary is keeping a focus on preparation in case of any flooding threats to the community.

Taking a prevention process is important. Mayor Naheed Nenshi states getting ready ahead of time is important.

“Share flood preparation strategies with your neighbours, take a look at the people in your neighbourhood who might be at greater risk, seniors, or disabled people”.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi asks Calgarians to visit calgary.ca/floodprep and with flood risk across parts of western Canada is it likely residents of other communities, including Thunder Bay might find the preparation that Calgary is doing helpful for their own planning.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure might sound old fashioned, but it works. And, no Thunder Bay we are not going to convert that to metric for you. James Murray
