NIPIGON – Friday night at the Nipigon Community Centre the Elks had to play against their arch rival Thunder Bay Northern Hawks. On Tuesday both teams skated to a 3-3 tie.
The first period was very entertaining to watch. The Hawks Markus Leikkari and Thomas Gratz for the Elks were outstanding in the nets. Both goalies faced 19 shots and saved every one of them for a scoreless first period.
The second period was all Hawks.
Josh Elvish started the Hawks scoring at the 37-second mark. Goals by Cam Gross and Ehren Menard would increase the Hawks advantage up to 3-0. The Elks would finally get on the score sheet at the 13:50 mark with a goal from Steven St.Jean. Nathan Spina would score to put the Hawks back up by three. The second period would end with the visiting Hawks leading 4-1. The Hawks would also out shoot the Elks 24-18 for a two period total of 43-37.
There was only two goals scored in the third period and they came off the stick of Josh Elvish for his hat trick. With the Hawks win they would stay undefeated at 10-0.
The Elks next home game is Friday December 10th at 7:30pm against the same Northern Hawks.
