THUNDER BAY – News –Nurses in Thunder Bay working for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit are staying on the job.
Thunder Bay Public Health Nurses, members of the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA), are pleased to announce that a tentative agreement has been reached with the employer.
The 58 Public Health Nurses and Thunder Bay District Health Unit reached the tentative agreement yesterday with the assistance of a conciliator.
Details of the agreement are confidential until ratified by both parties. ONA is currently making arrangements for its members to meet to hear details of the agreement and to hold a ratification vote.
Public Health Nurses provide immunizations, flu vaccinations, genetic screening and health supports to new birth moms and families at risk in the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children program. Public Health Nurses also provide sexual health clinics, participate in community wellness initiatives and surveillance of communicable diseases in the community.
The nurses have expressed their appreciation for the support they have received from the community.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
