Fire Claims Four Lives in Mishkeegogamang FN
Mishkeegogamang First Nation – UPDATED – A house fire in Mishkeegogamang First Nation has the small community in mourning.
Mishkeegogamang Ojibway Nation is located around the area where the Albany River meets Lake St. Joseph. Today, just over 900 people live on its two reserves, while about 500 live off the reserve, either on Crown Land or in other communities.
A young mother and her two daughters and her nephew have perished in the fire. Names have not been released yet.
From Thunder Bay a team of community members are mobilizing to help. Erin Marie states, “Boozhoo Mishkeegogamang Naabeg Weequedenong Niin Daanimunum chii naatimooshiiyak. Kiindaanimigoomin chiiwiichiitawng chiindoo naatiimaahgaayung Kiitoodiinaamaagiinaanung.
“I need a Team of Mishkeegogamang People here in Thunder Bay mobile n emotionally strong individuals to come home with me to assist our relatives who are in grief of such a terrible loss”.

Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service Update
On Thursday, February 13, 2014, at approximately 3:00AM., Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service members at the Mishkeegogamang Detachment began an investigation following the report of a residential fire.
This investigation is in its early stages, with the NAPS North West Region Crime Unit and Ontario Fire Marshall currently en route to the location.

Mishkeegogamang First Nation is approximately 315 km northwest of Thunder Bay.
