OTTAWA – Sports – The Lakehead University women’s volleyball team was defeated Wednesday evening at the hands of the Ottawa Gee-Gees, 3-0 (16-25, 15-25, 16-25).
Lakehead was unable to execute their game plan, and was out-gunned by Ottawa’s Kelsie and Myriam English, who combine to finish with a combined 28.5 points (21 kills, 5 aces, 2.5 blocks).
In response Lakehead’s Jasmine Fox recorded 6 kills with a block and a service ace for 8 total points, marking the third game in a row Fox has led the T-Wolves in kills.
Giving Ottawa Too Much Respect
Lakehead coach Chris Green commented after the game, “Tonight’s game was a prime example of a giving a team too much respect. You have to respect Ottawa’s physical style of play however you can’t avoid it. We needed to be much more aggressive against Ottawa and we needed to execute the plan we had decided. We agreed that we would attack in a fearless fashion and I’m sure we’re not happy with how we followed that idea. In essence, our execution of the game plan failed us more so because we gave them possibly too much respect.”
Green elaborates, “You have to respect Ottawa’s style of play although we needed to set the tone and attack the weakness that they show. We played safe, and safe isn’t going to win you a lot of games. I think the girls will be ready to reset themselves as they play Waterloo on Friday night.”
The women’s team play Waterloo Friday and Saturday evening at 7:00pm.
