THUNDER BAY – City Council heard from a group last night who want to put in place a War Memorial.

“I came up with this ten years ago after seeing the portraits of those who went to WWII at Hillcrest High School in the stairs leading into the school,” shares Jim Mauro.

Mauro and a group of interested residents were before City Council last night to pitch the concept of having a War Memorial in Thunder Bay.

“I did pitch it once before and it didn’t go anywhere” stated Mauro, “and now my friends and I want to move this forward”.

The group includes Shawn Harris, Angelo Foglia, and Kyle Williams.

“The project itself is to build a war memorial, with the names engraved of every member of our city that lost their lives in any military or peace keeping missions as far back as we can find,” comments Mauro.

Thunder Bay City Council voted to support the idea, and suggest that the group also co-ordinate with other groups in the city including the Royal Canadian Legion to help make the project a reality.

The Memorial Group is seeking support from the City in terms of a location for the Tribute Memorial.
