THUNDER BAY – Weather – Fort Severn and other Northern Communities in Ontario are under Blizzard Warnings. Environment Canada states, “A low pressure system over Hudson Bay will bring very strong and gusty winds to the region. Strong westerly winds gusting to 80 km/h will veer to the north with frequent gusts to 60 km/h overnight. These winds combined with falling snow will cause widespread blizzard conditions as already being experienced in Northern Manitoba to also affect the Fort Severn region. Visibilities will be frequently reduced to near zero especially in exposed areas, resulting in whiteout conditions.
“The blizzard conditions are expected to persist into Saturday morning then begin to ease towards noon as the winds diminish”.
While Thunder Bay is experiencing strong winds and blowing snow tonight. There are no warnings out for the city.
However to the west, Atikokan, Shebandowan, Quetico Park, Sioux Lookout and Savant Lake have wind chill warnings in effect.
“Developing brisk northwest winds and clearing skies are expected to bring temperatures down to near minus thirty degrees tonight. Wind chill values are expected to be near minus 40 during the late overnight period tonight and early Saturday morning,” according to Environment Canada.
