Grand Rapids Good for Thunder Bay Queens!

THUNDER BAY – Sports – The two Thunder Bay Queens’ bantam teams playing in tournaments in Minnesota remain unbeaten after posting wins Saturday morning at their respective events.

At the Star of the North tourney in Grand Rapids Ellen Svane scored the deciding goal as the Manshield Construction bantam A Queens edged the Eagan Wildcats 4-3 in a shootout.

Meanwhile at the St. Luke’s Icebreaker Invitational in Duluth the First Class Gas bantam AA’s also improved to 2-0 with a 702 triumph over the Prior Lake Lakers.

In Grand Rapids, Tia Lampo, Delaney McLeod and Alyssa Piccolo scored in regulation for Thunder Bay.

After a scoreless overtime solved nothing extra shots were required to determine a winner with Svane eventually ending it in a contest that needed one-on-one attempts to decide the outcome after the two clubs were still knotted after the five-vs.-five shootout round.

Taylor Gombola came up big in the Queens’ net to register the victory.

Meanwhile in Duluth, Alyssa Ciccigoi and Kaylee Grosjean each had a goal and assist apiece to pace Thunder Bay past Prior Lake.

Madeline Browczuk, Jayda MacArthur, Karadyn Kiviaho, Zoe Hynnes and Emilie Varrin also scored in the triumph.

Amanda Pages, Caitlyn Radbourne and Briana Prete supplied helpers to aid the Queens’ cause.

Makenna Burke earned the win in net allowing only two power play markers by Prior Lake.

Game action for both sides continues Saturday evening with the bantam A squad meeting the Orono Spartans at 8 p.m. while the bantam AA team takes on the Wayzata Trojans at 7:45 p.m.
