Another al-Qaeda Leader Dead

BEIRUT – International News – Majid al-Majid, al-Qaeda’s commander in Lebanon, has died in custody in a Beirut hospital, Lebanon’s army says.

The Lebanese Army states that the death of the detainee named Majid al-Majid processed during the morning in the central military hospital, was caused by bad teeth.  Earlier reports indicated that the leader of the terrorist group had lapsed into a coma following problems with his kidneys. 

The Lebanese government announced on December 26th, 2013 that DNA testing had confirmed the identity of Majid al-Majid. The Saudi national, who led the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, was on Saudi Arabia’s most-wanted-terrorists list.

An army general initially told the Associated Press the militant died of kidney failure. A later clarification now states that the terrorist leader died as a result of an undisclosed infection related to dental problems.

The Abdullah Azzam Brigades has carried out attacks across the Middle East. In November the group claimed responsibility for a bomb attack on Iran’s Beirut embassy in November that murdered twenty-three people.
