Senseless Mugging in Banff Mars Marathon
BANFF – British runner Jamie Mcdonald is seeking to be the first runner to go across Canada without a support team. On New Year’s Eve in Banff Alberta, a community more famous for beautiful mountains and amazing skiing is also the place where a mugging of British marathoner Jamie Mcdonald has put a black mark on Canada.
Mcdonald has been running a marathon a day heading across Canada. In Banff last night following the festivities, the runner was attacked by unknown assailants.
His bag containing precious items, including his video record of his trip was stolen. “The bag was the most important thing of my life – it held everything of this whole adventure, all the video footage, my credit cards, everything I own.”
Canadians Stepping up to Help
Mcdonald has been running across Canada, wearing a costume as ‘Flash’ the comic book hero. He has raised almost $100,000 dollars so far. The funds are going to UK charities Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity and the Pied Piper Appeal, and children’s hospitals throughout Canada.
Jamie is set to continue running, and is hoping that Canadians will step up to help.
