Senator Mike Duffy Recovering
OTTAWA – Senator Mike Duffy is recovering from open heart surgery. The embattled Senator who told Senators and the media earlier this fall that he was defending himself in the Senate against doctor’s orders is recovering in an Ottawa hospital. The Senator underwent the operation on Tuesday.
The operation was to clear blocked arteries. This is the second time since 2006 that Dr. Marc Ruel, chief of the cardiac unit at the University of Ottawa’s Heart Institute, performed surgery on the Senator and former CTV broadcaster.
The Senator also suffered a minor heart attack in 1992.
Senator Duffy was suspended from the Senate in November but had taken sick leave from the upper chamber of Canada’s Parliament over health issues related to his heart condition.
“At the end of August this year I suffered unstable angina at home on P.E.I., and spent 2.5 days in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital,” stated Duffy. “On examination here this week, my Ottawa GP fears the disease has progressed.”
The Senator’s wife reports that Mr. Duffy is doing fine.
