Nipigon Elks Win in Exciting Match

NIPIGON – Friday, at the Nipigon Community Centre the Nipigon Elks played against the Thunder Bay Screaming Eagles. The last time these two teams met at the Nipigon Community Centre, the Elks beat them 10-2.

The visiting Eagles starting the scoring at the 9:27 mark of the first period with a goal from Kirk Meekis. Terrance Semple scored the Eagles second goal of the period to put the Eagles up 2-0. The Eagles showed that they have improved from the first game in Nipigon. The visitors out shot the Elks 14-9.

With the Elks playing on the power play Chet Blanchette scored a power play to bring the home town Elks within one of the Eagles. The Eagles would get that goal back while they were on the power play. The Eagles goal came from Travis Tom. The Elks out played the Eagles in the second period, but could only get one puck behind Devlin Daignault in the Eagles net. The Elks out shot the Eagles by a wide margin of 27-7 for a two period total of 36-21.

The third period was really entertaining for the great crowd. The Elks Ryan Begall scored the equalizer at the 15:13 mark. With the third period winding down it looked like both clubs would go home with a point. With three second left Brodie Biasiol scored and send the Nipigon bench happy with joy, and get a well deserved win.

The Elks next home game is Friday October 29th at 7:30pm when they will be entertaining the second place Northern Hawks.
