Stabbing in Downtown Thunder Bay – Third Incident
THUNDER BAY – Crimebeat – Thunder Bay Police report that there were two stabbing incidents on the south side early this morning. Police have no suspects in custody but believe the two incidents could be related.
Police received the calls about ten minutes apart.
Just after 3:30EST, police report that a male was stabbed multiple times inside the Odd Fellows Hall apartment building.
Police then responded minutes later to a south-side house where the homeowner found a second victim in the bathroom suffering from multiple stab wounds to the neck.
Both stabbing victims are in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with non-life threatening injuries.
This is the third stabbing incident in recent days in the south side of Thunder Bay. On November 7th, a large hunting knife was the weapon that sent a local man to hospital in a stabbing incident that happened at about 8:20PM Wednesday night. The incident happened in the 200 block of May Street south.
The Thunder Bay Police are hunting for the lone male suspect in this incident whom police report is known to them.
There have been no updates or reported progress in the November 7th incident, which have family members concerned over safety issues for the downtown.
Business Owners and Fort William BIA Stepping Up
Recently a group of concerned business owners met with City of Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs and City Manager Tim Commisso.
The goal of the meeting is reaching a better and safer neighbourhood. Topics discussed included better street lighting, improved police presence in the area, working with the Shelter House, and improved maintenance of downtown streets.
The informal meeting was held at the Unveiled Bridal Shop on Victoria Avenue East.
The session focused on engagement, with Mayor Hobbs and Tim Commisso offering some direction, but also asking a lot of questions about what is needed in the area.
Business owners in the area are very focused on building relationships and partnerships not only with the City of Thunder Bay, but with the BIA in the area, and in making the area safer for their businesses.
The number of businesses owned and operated in the Fort William Business District by women is very high.
The Dominion Curling Championships are being hosted at the Fort William Curling Club starting on Saturday. Thunder Bay Police remain quiet on any plans to have expanded patrols or presence in the downtown south core.
