Fort William Male Choir Ready for Christmas with Concert

THUNDER BAY – This year, the Fort William Male Choir is dedicating its annual Prelude to Christmas Concert – held at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium on December 3rd and 4th – to the Prostate Cancer Canada Network-Thunder Bay Branch.

The 2010 concert theme will be “SING FOR THE HEALTH OF IT”. Don Harris Jr., Vice President of the FWMC, and Phil Junnila, Board Member of Prostate Cancer Canada Network-Thunder Bay, are co-chairs of this partnership committee and both agree that this is a perfect fit for their respective organizations.

According to Prostate Cancer Canada Network, prostate cancer will affect 1 out of 6 men in their lifetime.  The affects are also felt by family members and friends of those diagnosed with this men’s disease.

The Fort William Male Choir decided that to help bring awareness and to donate a portion of this year’s proceeds from its Christmas Concert was the right thing to do. The Choir, being a tight-knit ‘family’ group, fits nicely into the Prostate Cancer Network’s theme of “It’s A Family Affair”, as they provide support and education not only to the cancer patient but make it available to the family as well. President of Prostate Cancer Canada Network – Thunder Bay, Bill Vantour exclaimed, “this is one of the best opportunities to raise awareness I’ve seen”.

“Our Choir family has been affected by this disease”, said Gerard Tremblay, President of the FWMC.  “Promoting healthy activities like singing in a choir or participating in any of the Arts is something that the FWMC feels is important to do.”
