Horizon Launches Lawsuit Against City of Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY- Horizon Wind Inc. has, reportedly filed suit against the City of Thunder Bay for $126 million claiming damages over a decision made by Thunder Bay City Council last night.

Over the past weeks, rumours have swirled about Thunder Bay that the company was planning legal action against the city unless they got their way. Horizon has denied, through the media, that they were planning legal action.

In a statement from the City of Thunder Bay the corporation states that they have seen a news release issued today by Horizon but has not yet seen any statement of claim. “We are disappointed Horizon has taken this position and, once we have received a statement of claim, we will be responding,” said City Manager Tim Commisso.

“We believe any lawsuit is unfounded,” he added. “City Council approved 14 of 18 sites and by executing the lease the City is fulfilling its obligations to move forward on this project having completed its due diligence.”

Thunder Bay City Council authorized Administration to execute the lease with Horizon and approved 14 of 18 locations for wind turbines with a request for the other four wind turbines to be moved to no closer to the edge of the escarpment than the approved locations.
