THUNDER BAY – Food Now – Well its official, the food trucks have finally made their way to the streets in Thunder Bay.
Cindy Loohoo’s was the first truck to make its way to Thunder Bay streets. The lime green truck is named after her favourite character from Dr Seuss. Cindy Loohoo’s Gourmet Eats on the Streets sells comfort food; Caesar salad; Greek salad; poutine; perogies on a stick; Philly cheese steak; pulled pork; a stuffed burger; chicken BLT sandwich, as well as a Veggie grill.
Prices range from $3 to $13, Check out Cindy Loohoo’s Facebook page for more details and the location of the food truck each day.
Local Motion, another food truck, is owned and operated by Pinetree Catering and offers up a very unique and healthy product, ranging from their Berkshire burger to their black bean veggie burger served with root chips; confit duck and chicken spring rolls with mango cashew slaw; as well as slow roasted pulled chicken basted in a sweet and smokey sauce. Prices start at $3 and up to $10. Check out Local Motion on Pinetree Caterings Facebook page
Churrasqueira Galo Inc. on Red River Road, also operates a food truck. Churrasqueira Galo Inc. offers Portuguese food which is truly delicious.
The Galo food truck offers a Galo Burger, Bifana (pork) Galo (beef) sandwiches and their amazing Piri Piri Chicken dinner combo with fries. Galo also offers sweet treats known as elephant ears as well as their amazing custard tarts. The price is right as well, as nothing is over $8.
Check out Galo’s Facebook page.
A stationary food trailer called Going Dutch is parked by Pier 2 at the Marina. Going Dutch offers authentic Dutch food such as Poffertjes ( mini pancakes with butter/icing sugar), Croquettes (deep fried roll with spices/minced meat) or Rookworst (Dutch smoked sausage on a bun). The prices on Going Dutch are very reasonable, as there isn’t anything priced over $6.50.
The Poffertjes are delicious and I highly recommend them, either with the icing sugar or add the extra toppings with whip cream! Going Dutch is open from 10AMEDT until 9PMEDT daily and will be at the Marina until mid September, and if weather permits, maybe into October.
The Redhead and the Chef have started this craze over a year ago and until recently, have been doing catering and selling meals out of their home. In the near future, the Redhead and the Chef will hit the streets with their amazing cuisine in their brand new state of the art food truck being specially designed for them! Look for the Redhead & the Chef in the Spring of 2014, and until then, check out their website and the amazing food they currently serve up!
Thunder Bay is blessed with great restaurants, and now we have some awesome food trucks!
To see where the food trucks will be daily, either check their Facebook pages the night before, or log into Thunder Bay Dining and check out the post: Food Truck Locations. I update it with their current locations for each day.
