THUNDER BAY – Dr. William Lucas, Deputy Chief Coroner for Inquests, today announced that a new date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Bruce Moonias.

Mr. Moonias, age 27, died on Dec. 11, 2006, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre following his involvement with Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. 

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Moonias’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths. 

The inquest is expected to last three weeks and to hear from approximately 22 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, in Auditorium A, Ontario Government Building, Main Floor, 189 Red River Rd., Thunder Bay. Dr. David Evans will preside as inquest coroner and Leonard Kim will be counsel to the coroner.
